Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What does it cost to become a member?
Each member is required to purchase one share of stock for their respective member class.
  2. Who manages the alliance’s day to day activities?
To allow members to focus on their own businesses, the day to day operations of the cooperative are run by the employee members, under the direction of the member Board of Directors.
  3. Does becoming a member change my employment status or my businesses’ ownership structure in anyway?
No, you retain control of your existing business. You are also now a shareholder-member of this new cooperative in addition!
  4. What’s the difference between the alliance and a broker?
The GlobalPac Alliance is a Sales and Manufacturing Organization.
  5. What’s the difference between the GlobalPac Alliance and a trade association?
We both share similar goals – supporting independent sheet manufacturers and corrugators. But unlike the alliance, trade associations need to stay neutral, acting primarily as advocates for their members on broad issues. The GlobalPac Alliance acting through its cooperative framework is more hands on, working directly to helping members lower their costs by leveraging the scale of the group, and using technology to help connect members and customers.
  6. When a new sales opportunity comes into the alliance, instead of to a specific member, who gets it?
Each new sales opportunity will be first offered to the best manufacturer based on each job’s unique requirements, including price, capability, speed, geography, and activity within the Alliance. The more active you are, the more opportunities you will be given. Should disputes arise, a mediation process is outlined in the Alliance’s by-laws.
  7. Can an independent manufacturer’s in-house salespeople become members of the alliance?
No. But the independent manufacturer they work for can, bringing their salespeople many of the same benefits the Alliance brings to independents.
  8. What’s the history of Cooperatives?
Co-ops have an amazing record of success – 90% survive more than 5 years versus less than 10% of traditional businesses. Plus, this cooperative was conceived and is being managed by long-time packaging industry experts, as well as some of the country’s leading experts in cooperative development. Exactly what it needs to succeed.
  9. Am I liable for the debts of the cooperative, or any of its members?
No, you are not liable for any debts of the co-op. You are protected from this by the by-laws of the cooperative as detailed in the membership agreement.
  10. What if the alliance isn’t working for me?
You are free to stop participating in alliance programs anytime you want. Should you want to leave, your stock will be re-purchased by the alliance at its original price.

Working together makes all of this happen.
